William H. Toward

William H. Toward, 76, of McDonald, died Monday, April 16, 2012 at Washington Hospital.

He was born April 8, 1936 in McDonald a son of the late John K. and Frances May (Campbell) Toward.

Mr. Toward owned and operated Toward Refuse for 36 years before retiring in 1996. Before operating his own business, he worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 15 years and he also worked as a dairy farmer for much of his life.

He enjoyed rabbit hunting with a good dog and was well known for his vegetable garden.

On January 15, 1958 he married Mary Elizabeth Charlier, who survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Tammy (Walter) Herbst, Terri T. (Charlie) Nimpfer and Sharon D. (Kenny) Wright, all of McDonald; two sons, George E. (Mary) Toward and John C. Toward, both of McDonald; two sisters, Bonnie Tournay and Betty Jean Toward, both of McDonald; two brothers, Edward Toward and James Toward, both of McDonald; eight grandchildren, Mike, Melinda and Bill Herbst, Taylor J. Hughes, Laura and Stacy Toward, Kenneth and Eli Wright; and three great grandchildren, Brianna, Adryonna and Dylan Herbst.

Deceased are a son, William H. Toward, Jr.; a sister, Marietta Raub; and a brother John Toward that died in infancy.

Friends will be received from 7 – 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 – 4 and from 6 – 9 p.m. Wednesday at Nation Funeral Home, Inc., 220 East Lincoln Ave., McDonald, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 19 with Rev. Craig Kephart, pastor of Venice Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will follow in Robinson Run Cemetery, McDonald. The family suggests memorials be made to Venice Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 3694 Millers Run Rd., Home, McDonald, PA 15057.
