Vernon Joseph Perkins

Vernon J. “Joe” Perkins, 59, of McDonald, died Monday, August 11, 2014 at Forbes Hospice, Pittsburgh.

He was born June 20, 1955 in Canonsburg, a son of Vernon Ross and Irene Victoria (Bennett) Perkins.

Mr. Perkins worked for the Northside Pittsburgh Heinz Plant.

In his youth, he was a star athlete for Canon McMillan football and McDonald Youth Baseball. He was a member of First Baptist Church, McDonald and enjoyed fishing and music.

Surviving are four children, Chris Ann, Victoria, Ashley and Anthony Perkins, all of Pittsburgh; six sisters, Donna Elliott of Imperial, Ethel Edwards of Monroeville, Patricia Burnett and Linda Perkins, both of McDonald, Kimberly Perkins of Pittsburgh and Lisa Khan of Silver Spring, MD; a brother, James Perkins of Bethlehem, PA; grandchildren, Anthony Luster, Bishop Chmiel, Jasmine and Alawna Adams; and many aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends will be received from 7 – 9 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, 141 N. McDonald St., McDonald, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 15 with Rev. Barry Givner officiating. Burial will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to First Baptist Church, McDonald.
