Robert J. “Buddy” Meade, 76, of McDonald, died Tuesday, August 14, 2012 surrounded by his family at home. His demeanor and outlook on life were an inspiration to his family and friends during the final days of his life.
He was born March 4, 1936 in McDonald, the son of the late Robert Charles and Marie (Randour) Meade.
Mr. Meade served in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a retired welder with Local #27 of the Plumber’s Union retiring in January of 1987. He also had Meade’s Auto Body and Meade’s ARCO and Confectionary in McDonald.
Mr. Meade was a member of Chartier’s Lodge #297 F. & A.M., Canonsburg and a member of Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh. He loved classic cars and animals and enjoyed working as an extra in movies and Rolling Rock commercials.
On January 25, 1960, he married Donna Strimel, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Dana (Gus) Tournay of McDonald; a sister, Marlene Shupe of McDonald; two grandchildren, Michael Robert Pape and Danielle Pape (Michael) Gogolin; a step grandchild, Bradley M. Tournay; two great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Chloee Pape; two step great grandchildren, Madison Tournay and Kayleah Orbin; great grand dogs, Zoey and Petey and cherished cats.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday at Nation Funeral Home, Inc., 220 East Lincoln Ave., McDonald, where services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, August 17 with Miss Summer Steele officiating. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
