Robert A. Balmer

Robert A. Balmer, 95, of Sturgeon, died Tuesday, December 12, 2017 in Genesis Health Care’s Bridgeville Rehabilitation and Care Center.

He was born February 4, 1922 in Sturgeon, a son of the late Jesse Alza and Bertha (Scherer) Balmer.

Mr. Balmer was a graduate of South Fayette High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was the recipient of a number of medals.

He worked as an electronics tester for R.C.A. in Washington until his retirement in 1984.

Mr. Balmer was a member of St. Patrick R.C. Church, Noblestown and a member of the McDonald V.F.W. Post #567.

He enjoyed small game hunting, fishing and turtle hunting. He also took pride in his garden.

On February 18, 1947, he married Etta McGraw, who died November 7, 2008.

Surviving are a daughter, Donna (Albert James) Klimas of Oakdale; a son, Robert A. (Madeline Niewodowski) Balmer, Jr. of Pittsburgh; five grandchildren, Richard (Sherry) Daddario, Sarah (David Mansueto) Daddario, Emily (Jesse) Sukman, Tyson C. Balmer and Robert A. Balmer, III; and six great grandchildren, Richard, Dante, Antonio and Isabella Daddario and Eli and Carly Sukman.

Deceased are a daughter, Deborah Armbruster; an infant son; and a brother, Edward Balmer.

Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and from 2-4 and from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Nation Funeral Home, Inc., 220 E. Lincoln Ave., McDonald. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 16, 2017 with Rev. Ben Vaghetto, celebrant. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Moon Township.
