Richard Paul Fender

Richard P. Fender, 64, of McDonald, died Wednesday, May 09, 2012 in Kindred Hospital, Oakdale.

He was born October 4, 1947 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Eugene H. and Rosemary Teed Fender.

Mr. Fender was a 1965 graduate of Burgettstown High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He worked as a Steel Worker for Weirton Steel for 34 years before retiring in 2006.

Mr. Fender was a member of St. Alphonsus R. C. Church, McDonald and a member of the United Steel Workers of America. He enjoyed woodworking and making things for around the house.

On October 26, 1968 he married Leona “Candy” Kunkle, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Bryan (Laura) Fender of Smithton, Michael (Jamie) Fender of Coraopolis and James Fender of Newark, DE; two daughters, Tracie Edwards of McDonald and Amanda Fender at home; a brother, Eugene “Jay” Fender of Midway; and four grandchildren, Wyatt and Colby Fender, Jesse Edwards and Tobias Fender.
Deceased are two brothers, David and Larry Fender.

Friends will be received from 1-4 and from 6-9 p.m. Friday at Nation Funeral Home, Inc., 220 East Lincoln Ave., McDonald. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 14 at a time to be announced. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Disabled American Veterans, 1000 Liberty Ave # 1606 Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
