Mildred Louise (Glaspell) Powell

February 18, 1937 — June 25, 2014

Mildred Louise Powell, 77, of McDonald died Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Allegheny General Hospital of Pittsburgh.

She was born February 18, 1937 in Doddridge County, WV, a daughter of the late Claude Uriah and Essie Mae (Swigger) Glaspell.

Mrs. Powell worked in housekeeping at the former Holiday Inn and Howard Johnson in Oakdale for 21 years before retiring in 1999.

She enjoyed chatting with friends at the Giant Eagle hot dog stand in McDonald and loved helping at the Pittsburgh Guild for the Blind in Bridgeville.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Lou Leadbitter of McDonald and Trish L. (Shawn) Cerezo of Carnegie; a son, Roger L. Powell of McDonald; two step sons, Dennis L. (Rene "Toots") Powell and Kenneth L. Powell, both of Bridgeville; a sister, Katherine Marie Kesling of Clarksburg, WV; a brother, James Glaspell of McMechen, WV; seven grandchildren, Jeremy T. and Thomas G. Leadbitter, Amity B. Powell, Erin M., Tim W., Christina “Nina” and Matt R. Cerezo; two step grandchildren, Greg and Jeff Powell; and a step great grandchild, Paige Powell.

Deceased are 13 brothers and sisters; and a grandchild, Amanda A. Leadbitter.

Friends will be received from 2 – 4 and from 6 – 8 p.m. Monday at Nation Funeral Home, Inc., 220 E. Lincoln Ave., McDonald, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, with Rev. Angela Kress, pastor of Imperial Church of the Nazarene, officiating. The family suggests memorials be made to Blind & Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh, 1800 West Street, Homestead, PA 15120.
