Matilda Joanne (Phillips) Kenneweg

September 22, 1919 — December 14, 2016

Matilda Kenneweg, 97, of McDonald, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2016.

She was born September 22, 1919 in Oakdale, a daughter of Petronela and John Phillips.

Mrs. Kenneweg graduated from Oakdale High School in 1937 and from Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing, Pittsburgh in 1941. Over her nursing career she worked at Allegheny General Hospital, at Koppers Company and for more than 20 years as Nursing Supervisor at Woodville State Hospital from where she retired in 1984.

She was very fond of reading, gardening, especially flowers, bird watching, and her cats. She also was an excellent cook and a special Aunt to all.

Mrs. Kenneweg is preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Robert Kenneweg, her parents, her sister, Catherine McCrory and her brother, Paul Phillips.

She is survived by her nephews, Charles (Laraine) McCrory of Conneaut, OH, Jack (Catherine) Kenneweg of McDonald, Ken (Marie) Crowley of Steubenville, OH, and Darrell (Elizabeth) Kenneweg of Ohio; her nieces, Barbara Ashteneau of Detroit, MI, Linda (John) Baldigowski of McDonald, Barb (Buck) Druga of Oakdale, and Roween Vetter of Gibsonia; great nieces and nephews, Paul McCrory, John McCrory, Chris Smithhisler, Joy Ashteneau, Paul Ashteneau, Mary Ann Ross, Donna Hertzler, Cathy Darnley, Valerie Kristyak, Joyce Hill, Bob Druga, Bruce Vetter, Rebecca Mack, Susan Stenzel, Walter Kenneweg, John Kenneweg, Wes Kenneweg, Earl Kenneweg, Eric Kenneweg, Kelly Dombkowski, Sherry Sutherland, Lisa Lauff, Sam Baldigowski, Debbie McQuire, Sam Griffith, Scott Griffith, Kristen Patton, Amy McVay; and her close friend, Mary Lou Cooper.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at St. Alphonsus R.C. Church, McDonald. Burial will follow in Robinson Run Cemetery, McDonald. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Washington Area Humane Society, 1527 PA-136, Eighty Four, PA 15330 or to St. Alphonsus R.C. Church, 219 W Lincoln Ave, McDonald, PA 15057.
