Lloyd Alfred, 79, of McDonald, died Monday, October 24, 2016 at Asbury Heights of Mt. Lebanon.

He was born November 17, 1936 in McDonald, a son of the late Walter Waldron and Blanch (Random) Alfred.

Mr. Alfred was a 1954 graduate of McDonald High School. Following high school he began his career as an electrician in the United States armed forces with the U.S. Navy, transferred to the Army for a couple of years and finished his 20 years of service in the U.S. Navy retiring in 1974.

He was a member of the McDonald V.F.W. Post #567 and the McDonald American Legion Post #485.

Mr. Alfred enjoyed watching TV, listening to music and reading. He was most content, however, when he was able to spend time with his family.

On October 18, 1974, he married Elizabeth Lewis, who died January 4, 2012.

Surviving are two daughters, Melonie (Jeff) Piatt of Mt. Lebanon and Susan Thomas of Winston Salem, NC; four brothers, Floyd (Dorothy) Alfred of Midway, Daniel Alfred of Las Cruces, Mexico, David (Debbie) Alfred of Sheridan and Darrell (Sandy) Alfred of Carnegie; and three grandchildren, Cullin, Makenzie and Maddison Piatt.

Deceased is a brother, Donald Nice.

Friends will be received from 2 – 4 and from 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday at Nation Funeral Home, Inc., 220 E. Lincoln Ave., McDonald, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2016 with Pastor Jim Viola, chaplain with ViaQuest Hospice officiating.  Military honors will follow at Robinson Run Cemetery, McDonald. The family requests memorial contributions be made to ViaQuest Foundation, 610 Park Avenue, Monongahela, PA 15063.
