Lawrence W. Brinkman, Jr.

Lawrence W. “Brink” Brinkman, Jr., 88, of Canonsburg, died Thursday, October 8, 2015 at home in Canonsburg, surrounded by “his girls.”

He was born April 13, 1927 in McDonald, the son of the late Lawrence W. and Nancy Ella (Love) Brinkman, Sr.

Mr. Brinkman was a graduate of McDonald High School and worked as a supervisor for Pennsylvania American Water Company in Canonsburg. He retired in 1989 after 42 years of service.

He joined the McDonald V.F.D. on July 19, 1943 and during his life served as the Fire Chief for 14 years and became a life member. He was a member of the Washington County Firemen’s Association, the Western Pennsylvania Firemen’s Association, and the Pennsylvania Firemen’s

Association. He was and Elder at Fairhill Manor Christian Church, Washington and an Elder at the former Calvary Presbyterian Church, McDonald.

Mr. Brinkman was a school bus driver for Peters Township School District from 1991 to 2001. He loved Pittsburgh sports, the beach, his family, his grand dogs “Ty” and “The Big Dog,” and his cat “Monk.”

He was a member of Chartiers Lodge #297 F.&A.M., Gourgas Lodge of Perfection, Valley of Pittsburgh and Syria Shrine Temple.

On March 13, 1993, he married the love of his life, Victoria A. “Vicki” Carter, who died December 23, 2013.

Surviving are a daughter, Mitzi (Mark) Shannon of Bellevue; a step-daughter, Cathy Duchess of Canonsburg; two step-sons, Jack (Sharon) Schultz of Seattle, WA and Brian Schultz of Washington; and seven grandchildren, J.D., Christian and Wray Schults, Victoria, Veronica and Vanessa Duchess, and Valerie (Terrell) McClain.

Friends will be received from 6 – 8 p.m. Saturday, and from 12 – 3 and from 6 – 8 p.m. Sunday at Nation Funeral Home, Inc., 220 E. Lincoln Ave., McDonald, where family will meet at 10:00 a.m. Monday for services that will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, October 12, 2015 in Fairhill Manor Christian Church, Washington, with Rev. Michael Lehman, pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Firemen’s service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday and Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are requested to Washington County Humane Society, PO Box 66, Eighty Four, PA 15330 in memory of his dog “Floppy” that he rescued many years ago.
