John C. “Jack / Moe” Descutner Jr., 65, of Conneaut Lake, formerly of Moon Township, died Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Meadeville Medical Center.
He was born April 15, 1946 in Canonsburg, a son of the late John C. and Ruth E. (Hardie) Descutner, Sr.
Mr. Descutner was a 1965 graduate of Fort Cherry High School, where he competed in football, wrestling and track. Following high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served as an Army Ranger in the Vietnam War and was involved in the TET Offensive.
He returned from the war and worked as a Lineman for Duquesne Light, where, after 39 years of employment, he retired in 2007 as a Supervisor.
Throughout his life, Mr. Descutner was an athlete and involved in sports. As a young man, he played in the American Softball Association for Southview Bar and participated in several slow pitch World Series Tournaments. He began weight lifting as a teenager and eventually trained youth in lifting weights for sport development. More recently, he decided to compete in NASA drug free powerlifting competitions, where in 1998, he won the national title in the bench press and set an American record for competitors over the age of 50. He also was a football official for both the N.C.A.A. and for P.I.A.A. and had officiated at the W.P.I.A.L. finals held at Three Rivers Stadium and at the State P.I.A.A. finals held in Hershey.
During the 70’s he vacationed at Conneaut Lake with his family, and when he retired, it was only natural that he and his wife moved there in 2008. He loved having family and friends visit and sharing his love for the lake and the area with them. Being an avid golfer, he was often seen playing at the Oakland Beach Golf Course near his home.
He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #567, McDonald, of the American Legion Post #485, McDonald and of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Beaver County Chapter #862. He was also a member of Union Lodge #259 F. & A.M., New Brighton.
On June 29, 1968, he married Louise J. Farkas, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Joy Lee (fiancée John Borchert) Descutner of Moon Twp; a sister, Mary Catherine (Tom) Garrett of McDonald; a brother, William H.
