John F. Langhurst

July 9, 1949 — July 16, 2014

John F. “Cowboy” Langhurst, 65, of McDonald, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at his home.

He was born July 9, 1949 in Canonsburg, a son of the late Robert A. and Grace Joy (Toward) Langhurst.

Mr. Langhurst was a 1967 graduate of Canon McMillan High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He worked in Building Maintenance for the U.S. Post Office, Northside, Pittsburgh for 23 years before retiring in 2010.

Mr. Langhurst was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police in Eighty-Four.

He enjoyed wood working and working on small engines and would never take anything but a case of beer as payment for helping people. He enjoyed shooting, fishing and spending time at his camp in the mountains. He was an avid golfer and a member of some local golf leagues.

On August 16, 2005, he married his companion of 26 years, Betty Leona Grabel, who survives.

Surviving are two sons, William and John Langhurst, both of Trafford; a step daughter, Vicki Klucick of Seven Fields; a step son, Steven Dixon of Crafton; a sister, Nancy Jean Perella of Port Saint Lucie, FL; a brother, Robert Allen Langhurst of Oakdale; and two step grandchildren, Caitlyn and Cory Klucick.

Deceased is a brother, Jamie Langhurst.

A time of gathering will be held from 2 – 4 and from 6 – 8 p.m. Monday at Nation Funeral Home, Inc., 220 E. Lincoln Ave., McDonald, where a memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, followed by a committal service at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
