John Wilber Carroll, 80, of Scottsdale, AZ, formerly of Midway, died Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Hospice Of The Valley of Tempe, AZ.
He was born August 10, 1933 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late James J. and Agnes B. (McCarthy) Carroll.
Mr. Carroll served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955.
He worked as a Loan Officer for Mellon Bank for 21 years and after retiring from there, worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the Welfare Department for 12 years before retiring in 2000.
Mr. Carroll enjoyed cutting grass with his lawn tractor and enjoyed working part time for Avis Rental at Greater Pittsburgh Airport.
On December 12, 1959, he married Marlene B. Brockman who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Kelly Rossi of Scottsdale, AZ and Leann (Jeffrey) Steele of Denver, CO; a son, Thomas (Christa) Carroll of Midway; a brother, Roy Carroll of Greentree; and six grandchildren, Alan Rossi, Sean and Allison Steele, Emma Smith, Rachel and Sydney Carroll.
Deceased are five brothers, Howard, Russell, Richard, Eugene and Jack Carroll; and a sister, Joyce McCarthy.
Friends will be received from 2 – 7 p.m. Sunday at Nation Funeral Home, Inc., 220 E. Lincoln Ave., McDonald, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 30 with Rev. Cathy Peternel, officiating. Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 31 at National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. Memorials may be made to Center U.P.
