James H. Ward, 74, of McDonald, died Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Washington County Health Center.

He was born April 8, 1942 in Washington, a son of the late George Henry William and Bertha Annie (Freshwater) Ward.

Mr. Ward served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He worked as a steelworker at J&L Steel (Aliquippa LTV) for 18 years and after the mill closed, worked as bartender at the McDonald V.F.W. for 28 years.

Mr. Ward was a member of the Slovan V.F.W. and the McDonald American Legion. He enjoyed playing cards and Bingo, watching football and baseball, and camping trips in Erie.

On June 7, 1971, he married Emma D.Carroll, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Lisa M. Ward of Bulger; two sons, Raymond E. Ward and Kenneth M. (Megan) Ward, both of McDonald; six brothers, Bill (Janet) Ward of Winfield, KS, Kenneth Ward, Henry (Punkin) Ward and Fred Ward, all of Washington, David Ward of Atlasburg, and Tom (Beth) Ward of Falling Waters, WV; seven grandchildren, Kenneth and Raymond Ward, Jessica and Elizabeth Faingnaert, Billie Jo Strother, and Blake and Paige Ward; two great grandchildren, Jillian Sheldon and Armani Annesi; and more than 30 nieces & nephews.

Deceased are three brothers, Wayne, Gerry and George Ward; and two sisters, Shirley Piatt and Cleo Cauthen.

Friends will be received from 3-5 and from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, at Nation Funeral Home, Inc., 220 E. Lincoln Ave., McDonald where services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2016 with Rev. Steven Parkhill, pastor of South Canonsburg Church, officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the McDonald Area Food Bank. Burial will follow in National Cemetery Of The Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
