James A. Lyons

December 7, 1936 — May 13, 2012

James A. Lyons, 75, of Bulger, died Sunday, May 13, 2012 in Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born December 7, 1936 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Albert K. and Ruth A. Ekequist Lyons.

Mr. Lyons was a 1954 graduate of Hampton High School and served in the U.S. Army in Germany following the Korean War.

He was a retired River Boat Captain having worked for the Gateway Clipper Fleet in Pittsburgh for 45 years before his retirement in 2002.

Mr. Lyons was a member of Avalon Lodge #657 F. & A.M., Bellvue, a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh, Gourgas Lodge of Perfection and a member of Syria Shrine, Pittsburgh.  His best friend was his pet Dachshund, Herman Hornbutton.

On February 12, 1970, he married Eleanore M. "Ellie" Blum, who survives.

Also surviving are three children, Carl Lyons of Bulger, Ella (Jeanne) Lyons of Golden, CO and Timothy (Kristen) Lyons of Beaver Falls; two brothers, Robert Lyons of Eugene, OR and Richard Lyons of Baden; a sister, Nancy Lyons of Pittsburgh; and three grandchildren, Jacquelyn, Karl and Olivia Lyons.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, at Nation Funeral Home, Inc., 220 E. Lincoln Ave., McDonald, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m.  Masonic services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Pittsburgh Dyslexia Center, 3579 Masonic Way, Pittsburgh, PA  15237.  Online condolences, photos and additional information are available at www.nationfuneralhome.com.
