Gertrude H. (Heakin) Janssens

Gertrude H. Janssens, 88, of McDonald, died Monday, April 16, 2012 in St. Clair Memorial Hospital, Mt. Lebanon.

She was born April 18, 1923 in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late Nephi W. and Gertrude (Daufen) Heakin.

Mrs. Janssens was a 1941 graduate of South Hills High School and a graduate of Pittsburgh Secretarial School. She retired from Woodville State Hospital in August of 1985 where she had worked as a Stenographer.

She was a member and past Clerk of Session of McDonald Presbyterian Church, a member and past Moderator of the Presbyterian Women. She was a member of McDonald American Legion Post #485 Auxiliary, a member of McDonald V.F.W. Post #567 Auxiliary, and a member and past President of Kenneth Newman American Legion Auxiliary, Mt. Washington. She was a member of the McDonald Women's Club and a member and past President of the McDonald Garden Club. She was a neighborhood Chairman of the Brownies & Girl Scouts and a member of the McDonald/Cecil Senior Citizens. She also helped as a volunteer for Washington Hospital Mental Health.

On February 14, 1946, she married Louis P. Janssens, who died March 29, 1996.

Surviving are a daughter, Marie Louise (Bill) Schottenheimer of McDonald; a son-in-law, Richard McVicker of Myrtle Beach, SC; a sister, Margaret Anne Sisko of McDonald; a grandson, Louis J. (Suzanne) McQuillan; two great grandchildren, Olivia Anne and Connor Louis McQuillan; and two nieces, Michelle DeAngelo and Roberta Chichester.

Deceased are a daughter, Linda Anne McVicker; a brother, Thomas W. Heakin; and a great granddaughter, Emily Kathleen McQuillan.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Nation Funeral Home, Inc., 220 East Lincoln Ave., McDonald, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday April 20 with Rev. Justin Amsler, officiating. Burial will follow in Robinson Run Cemetery, McDonald. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Talking Books at Carnegie Library or McDonad Presbyterian Church Youth Group.
