George J. Berger

George J. Berger, 92, of Raccoon Twp. died Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at his home.

He was born February 25, 1924 in Universal, IN, a son of the late Leon J. and Emelina (Bohey) Berger.

Mr. Berger served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

He was an Electrical Supervisor at the former J & L Steel which became LTV Steel for 39 years before retiring in 1984.

Mr. Berger was a member of the First United Methodist Church , Aliquippa, where he had served as a Trustee and on the Finance Committee. He was a member of the former Woodlawn Lodge #672 F.&A.M. Aliquippa which merged with the Bridgewater Lodge. He was a 32 degree Mason and a member of the Scottish rite of New Castle. He was a life member of American Legion Post #0580, Monaca and of V.F.W. Post #8805, Hopewell Twp. He also was a charter member of the National WWII Memorial.

On October 8, 1945, he married Betty Jane Smedley, who died October 16, 2004.

Surviving are a daughter, Diana Berger of Beaver, a son, Paul (Cindy Grese) Berger of Aliquippa; and two granddaughters, Antonia and Janeen Grese.

Deceased are three sisters, Bertha Bartkus, Emelia Offerman and Angel Behling; and a brother, Leon Berger, Jr.

Friends will be received Monday from 2 – 4 and from 6 – 8 at First United Methodist Church, 2816 Brodhead Rd., Aliquippa, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2016 with Rev. Thomas Bonomo officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, Aliquippa.
