Elizabeth Ellias

February 2, 1920 — June 9, 2015

Elizabeth Ellias, of McDonald passed Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at St. Clair Memorial Hospital of Pittsburgh.

She graduated from Burgettstown High School and earned her Nursing Degree from Mt. Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in New York. She entered the Navy in 1943 and during WWII was stationed at Guam in the Pacific. She retired, with 26 years of service, in 1969, as Lt. Commander. During her Navy career, she was able to travel all over the world. After retiring, she worked for several years at Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh.

She was a lifelong member of St. Alphonsus Church in McDonald, where she was very active. She was a member of the Navy Nurse Corps Association, the Retired Officers Association, the Steel City Officers’ Club and American Legion Post #485 of McDonald.

Surviving are a brother, Thomas Elias of McDonald; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her mother, Anna Elias; her father, Charles Elias; a brother, Harry “Hush” Elias; and two sisters, Margaret Frazier and Ruth Stuzin.

Friends will be received from 6 – 8 p.m. Sunday at Nation Funeral Home, Inc., 220 E. Lincoln Ave., McDonald. Public is invited to a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Monday, June 15 with Rev. Carl J. Gentile as celebrant. A private burial will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. Memorials may be made to St. Alphonsus R.C. Church, 219 W.
