Doris Zupancic, 89, of McDonald, died Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Donnell House of Washington.

She was born October 22, 1922 in Dover, England, the daughter of the late Frank and Daisy Jane (Sait) Poynton.

Mrs. Zupancic was a homemaker and a G.I. bride, meeting her beloved husband while he was stationed in England with the U.S. Army during WWII. As a civilian, she assisted in the war effort by working in an ammunitions factory on the outskirts of London and participated in rescue efforts following the invasion of Normandy.

She found enjoyment in crocheting, knitting, cooking and flower gardening. She loved lunches with her daughter, their dog, Katy, and took pleasure in a most remarkable collection of tea pots.

Mrs. Zupancic was a member of the McDonald-Cecil Senior Citizens and a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the McDonald V.F.W. Post.

On December 22, 1945, she married Frank Zupancic, who died on May 21, 1987.

Surviving are a daughter, Anna Marie Zupancic, who lived at home; four nephews, Frank, John and Alan Poynton, and Anthony Zupancic; and four nieces, Wendy Jennings, Dorothy Zupancic, Carol Weldon and Joyce Messer.

Deceased is a brother, Frank Poynton.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and from 7-9 p.m. Monday at Nation Funeral Home, Inc., 220 E. Lincoln Ave., McDonald, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3 with the Rev. Dennis Wilson of Prince of Peace Anglican Church, Hopewell, officiating, assisted by Rev. Will Lawbaugh. Memorials may be made to Pet Search, PO Box 1653, Washington, PA 15301.
