Doris J. (Campbell) Cowden

Doris J. Cowden, 82, of McDonald, died Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at her home.

She was born February 8, 1933 in Hickory, the daughter of the late Walter M. and Florella (Caldwell) Campbell.

Mrs. Cowden was a graduate of Hickory High School and a graduate of West Penn School of Nursing, Pittsburgh.

She worked as a registered nurse for West Penn Hospital following graduation. Later, she worked for John J. Kane in Scott Township and retired from Country Meadows in Bridgeville in 1986.

Mrs. Cowden was a member of McDonald Presbyterian Church and the McDonald American Legion Post 485 Ladies’ Auxiliary. She volunteered as a Den Mother for the McDonald Cub Scout Pack #394 and helped many of the community’s youth develop into young men.

She enjoyed singing, flowers and baking cinnamon buns and gobs.

On September 16, 1954, she married Richard G. Cowden, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Lynn R. (Donald) Thomas of Okeechobee, FL; two sons, Richard L. (Janice) Cowden of Clinton and James A. (Deborah) Cowden of McDonald; two brothers, Donald W. (late Janice) Campbell of Aliquippa and William (Janice) Campbell of Hickory; seven grandchildren, Jason and Daniel Cowden, Megan (Max) Davis, Amy and Aaron Cowden, Maci and Jenna Thomas.

Deceased are two brothers, Robert Campbell and Richard D. (Beverly of Hickory) Campbell.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Nation Funeral Home, Inc., 220 E. Lincoln Ave., McDonald, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 26 with Rev. Justin Amsler, pastor of McDonald Presbyterian Church, officiaiting. Burial will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory.
