Chester Wasik, 89, of McDonald, died Saturday, April 26, 2014.
He was born October 23, 1924 in Atlasburg, a son of Stanley and Jenny (Klimas) Wasik.
Mr. Wasik worked as a steel worker for 30 years at U.S. Steel in Ambridge before retiring in 1984. He was a member of the U.S.W.A.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of the McDonald V.F.W. Post #567 and the American Legion Post #485. He was a life member of the McDonald Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Western PA Fireman’s Association and a member of the Washington County Fireman’s Association.
On March 5, 1952, he married Nancy Weissberg who died August 2, 1981.
Surviving are a son, Robert K. Wasik of Oakdale; a step-son, Joseph “Peto” Garcia of Key Largo, FL; two sisters, Helen Buydash and Christine (Don) Sherge, both of Midway; a brother, Stephen Wasik of Cecil; and three grandchildren, Bobby, Joey and Lea Wasik.
Deceased are an infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth Wasik on July 2, 1953; a step-daughter, Jane Taylor; and four sisters, Virginia Krek, Julie Ceyrolles, Stella Teyssier and Rose Louise Wasik.
Friends will be received from 2 – 4 and from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at Nation Funeral Home, Inc., 220 E. Lincoln Ave., McDonald, where services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 1. Burial will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. The family suggests memorials be made to the McDonald Volunteer Fire Department.
