Betty M. (Shirey) Openbrower

April 26, 1928 — September 5, 2012

Betty M. Openbrower, 84, of McDonald, died Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at St. Clair Memorial Hospital of Pittsburgh.

She was born April 26, 1928 in McDonald, a daughter of the late James A. and Lillian (Terle) Shirey.

Mrs. Openbrower was a homemaker and a member of the McDonald-Cecil Senior Citizens Center.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, McDonald.  She loved audio books and enjoyed spending time crocheting.  She was also an avid card player and played an active part in the recreations at Havloch Commons, McDonald.

On February 21, 1947, she married Melvin Harry Openbrower, who died January 8, 2003.

Surviving are three daughters, Cheryl (Rick) Green of Bridgeville, Bette (Kenneth) Linkish of Midway and Lu Ann (Chuck) Roble of Aliquippa; a son, Sam (Jan) Openbrower of McDonald; a sister, Wilma Rashley of Palm Bay, FL; a brother, James Shirey of Bonita Springs, FL; eleven grandchildren, Melissa, Keith, Lonnie, Kristie, Samantha, Lisa, Carla, Kenneth, John, Jennifer and Melanie; and 18 great grandchildren.

Deceased are a sister, Dorothy Kish and a great grandchild.

Friends will be received from 2-9 p.m. Friday and from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, the time of services, at Nation Funeral Home, Inc., 220 E. Lincoln Ave., McDonald.  Burial will follow in Robinson Run Cemetery, McDonald.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh - Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, Leonard C.
