Bessie (Crowe) Mccarty

Bessie Crowe McCarty, 97, of McDonald, PA died January 15, 2012.

Bessie was born October 29, 1914 in McDonald, PA, the daughter of Gilbert C. and Myrtle Plants Crowe. She attended grade school at Pleasant Grove, East Finley Twp and graduated from McDonald High School in 1931.

She was married February 6, 1933 to Robert G. McCarty. He died March 7, 1967.

She was a bookkeeper for the J. Kerr McCarty Lumber Co. and later with Bianchi Chevrolet-Olds, retiring January 1, 1980. She was appointed Tax Collector for Robinson Twp and Fort Cherry School District from 1967-1986.

She had been a faithful member of the McDonald United Methodist Church since 1928, where she taught the Gleaners Sunday School Class. She was a member of the McDonald Senior Citizens, the Homemakers Club and a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels Program.

She is survived by one son, Robert G. McCarty, Jr. (Priscilla), State College, PA, a Grandson, Michael K. McCarty (Vicki), Lancaster, PA, two granddaughters, Amy Roth (Hugh), Milton, GA, Elizabeth Taricani (Thomas), State College, PA, five great grandchildren, Zachary McCarty, Caroline McCarty (Ben Hess), Brittany Roth, Katelyn Roth, Joseph Robert Taricani, one great great grandchild, Chase Hess, and several special nieces and nephews, one of which was more like the daughter she never had, Julie Fuhrer (Steve), Cecil, PA.

She was the last of her immediate family.

Deceased are a son, Thomas Kerr McCarty who died July 7, 1981, two sisters Wilma Scott (Earl), Marjorie Toward (Charles) and a brother Gilbert C. Crowe, Jr.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Friday, January 20 at Nation Funeral Home Inc, 218 E. Lincoln Ave., McDonald, PA, where services will be held Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 10:00am with Rev. Ken Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn and Gardens Cemetery, McMurray, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the McDonald United Methodist Church, 232 E. Lincoln Ave., McDonald, PA 15057.
