Alvin W. Berthold

Alvin W. Berthold, 76, of McDonald, died Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Country Meadows of South Hills, South Fayette Township.

He was born December 31, 1935 in McDonald, a son of the late Adam and Elizabeth (Bernhart) Berthold.

Mr. Berthold was the Vice President and Treasurer of Drainage and Ground Improvement, Inc. in Bridgeville, which later became D.G.I. – Menard, which he retired from in 2005.  He began working as a young man at the former L. Levison and Sons clothing store in McDonald.  Following that, he was employed by New York State Natural Gas, by Rust Engineering Co. and by Vibroflotation Foundation Inc., all of Pittsburgh.

He was a member of the McDonald Presbyterian Church where he had served as Head Usher, Assistant Treasurer, Past Treasurer, Elder and Trustee.  He also was a member of the church’s Steering Committee for the Lighting the Way Capital Campaign and was a volunteer for the McDonald Food Bank and the McDonald Meals on Wheels programs.  He was a member of the McDonald V.F.D.

On November 2, 1968, he married Carol A. Lohman, who survives.

Also surviving are a nephew, Howard J. Berthold of Fredericktown, OH; a niece, Candee L. Berthold of Mentor, OH; and a sister-in-law, Juanita Moody Berthold of Ft. Myers, FL.

Deceased is a brother, Howard M. Berthold.

Friends will be received from 12 – 3 and from 6 – 8 p.m. Sunday, at Nation Funeral Home, Inc., 220 E. Lincoln Ave., McDonald.  Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November, 12, 2012 at the Calvary Center of McDonald Presbyterian Church with Rev. Justin Amsler and Rev. Sue Petritis officiating.  Burial will follow in Robinson Run Cemetery, McDonald.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the McDonald Presbyterian Church Fund, payable to WCCF-MPCF and mailed to Washington Co.
